About Us

What is Pet Voyage?

Pet Voyage is a vet-written travel and wellness resource for Australian pet owners, combining destination itineraries, evidence-based health protocols, and gear reviews in one place. It is built and written by Dr Sharon and Dr Justin, two Brisbane veterinarians and University of Queensland graduates, not by a content team or a pet transport broker.

We started Pet Voyage because we kept being asked the same questions, in the clinic and at the dog park. Is it safe to fly her? What do I pack? How do I keep him calm in the car? Where can we actually take a dog on holiday in Australia? Those questions deserve a proper answer, grounded in clinical experience, not a generic listicle.

So we built the answer ourselves. Every health and safety article is written or reviewed by one of us, every clinical claim is sourced, and every recommendation is one we would make for our own animals.

Meet the vets behind Pet Voyage

Dr Sharon and Dr Justin are a married couple who are both registered Australian veterinarians based in Brisbane. They trained together at the University of Queensland and each hold postgraduate membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.

Dr. Sharon Lau

With years of experience across specialist hospitals and multiple small animal general practices in Brisbane, Sharon has seen firsthand the challenges pet owners face.

“Throughout my years in clinical practice, the most common questions I received weren’t just about vaccines—they were about life outside the clinic. Clients constantly asked about managing pet travel stress, the dangers of 1080 baiting, and how to prepare for interstate moves. I realized there was a massive gap in reliable, vet-led information for Australians who want to travel with their pets.”

Sharon’s clinical background in emergency and specialist care ensures that every piece of advice on Pet Voyager is grounded in medical fact and safety first.

Dr. Justin Chan

Justin shares Sharon’s commitment to animal welfare with a clinical focus in small animal surgery. Having worked extensively across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and the Gold Coast, Justin has a broad understanding of the unique environmental risks pets face across South East Queensland.

His goal with Pet Voyage is to move beyond the four walls of the consultation room. He believes that pets deserve to participate in more aspects of their owners’ lives, and owner deserve advice that helps them make that happen safely.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Pet Voyage based?

Pet Voyage is built in Brisbane, Queensland, by Dr Sharon and Dr Justin. The advice is written for Australian conditions: local climate, wildlife, road conditions, airline policy, and state regulations, with separate guidance for owners relocating a pet overseas.

Which parts of Australia does Pet Voyage cover?

Pet Voyage covers pet-friendly travel across Australia, with destination guides starting in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, and more states being added. Coverage includes road trips, interstate flights, accommodation, and emergency vet locations, plus overseas relocation as a secondary focus.

Can Pet Voyage replace a visit to my own vet?

No. Pet Voyage is a general informational and educational resource, not a substitute for in-person veterinary care. Use the site to prepare and ask better questions, then have your own vet assess your individual pet before travel, especially for medication, anxiety, or any existing health condition.

How is Pet Voyage different from other pet travel blogs?

Pet Voyage is written entirely by two practising registered vets, not by a content team or a transport broker. It combines Australian destination itineraries, evidence-based health protocols, and honest gear reviews in one place, with every clinical claim sourced and reviewed by a veterinarian.

How do I know the advice on Pet Voyage is current and accurate?

Every health and safety article is written or reviewed by one of the two veterinarian founders, and clinical claims are backed by peer-reviewed research. Articles carry a last-updated date, and guidance is revised as regulations and best practice change.
